• Comparison of Weight-Loss Diets with Different Compositions of Fat, Protein, and Carbohydrates
From The New England Journal of Medicine
They randomly assigned 811 overweight adults to one of four diets; the targeted percentages of energy derived from fat, protein, and carbohydrates in the four diets were 20, 15, and 65%; 20, 25, and 55%; 40, 15, and 45%; and 40, 25, and 35%. The diets consisted of similar foods and met guidelines for cardiovascular health. The participants were offered group and individual instructional sessions for 2 years. The primary outcome was the change in body weight after 2 years in two-by-two factorial comparisons of low fat versus high fat and average protein versus high protein and in the comparison of highest and lowest carbohydrate content.
Conclusion: Reduced-calorie diets result in clinically meaningful weight loss regardless of which macronutrients they emphasize.
(Bottom line...just reduce your calories.)
• Truvia the new sugar substitute, was added to the list of zero calorie sweeteners at the end of 2008.
I did a taste test with the top six sweeteners you’ll find at a restaurant or diner. I dissolved one packet of sugar into 8 oz. of water. I rated the six on a scale between 1 - 10, 10 being very sweet. Here is how I rated; pure sugar (7), Sweet ‘N Low (8.5), Equal (7.5), Splenda (8), Sugar In The Raw (6.5) and Truvia (9).
I also found Sugar In The Raw and Truvia dissolved the slowest.

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple....They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. Psalms 19:7 & 10 (New International Version)
